A long journey

Published by Unknown under , on 21:26

When I choose to purchase this larix I understand immediately that it would take me a long time for the formation of this plant.
Last year I did the first styling with the help of the master Gaetano Settembrini, so I let the tree free to grow all the season.
Unfortunately the smaller trunk which showed only a couple of buds didn't woke up going dry throughout the year.

In these first pictures it's visible this year growing, strong and disordered.

During the styling some branches weren't cut as the design would claim in order to not remove too much power to the plant.

One issue is the right trunk apex, after the sacrifice branch barking the new high branch has been placed and I'm confident that it will gain a natural look. Don't know what to do with the dry branch. Maybe a Jin, but even remove it all can be an option to enlight the structure.

Top of the left trunk shows another defect. The apex has a lack of conicity and two branch starts at the same height creating a cross design which isn't pleasant.
So I cut back the trunk to a little branch which will became the new apex; I wired the cross branches, I'm not happy about the result but with the growing maybe I can fix it.

I've wired the central trunks to give them some movement.

Qualche considerazione.

Some thoughts. I cut hard to obtain the necessary conicity and the branch in the right place (when possible), I remove a large branch of the right trunk which wasn't necessary. I will repot the plant in spring and I want to use a slab, I'm thinking about creating it with concrete to have the exact right size. In that moment I will work on the inclination of the trunk which I didn't move now to avoid more stress.
Plant structure isn't really reliable to a stump or a raft but I think that with time it could gain an evocative look.

Lucky me

Published by Unknown under , , on 14:21

I've been so lucky yesterday, so lucky that now I own a new bonsai and a new suiseki.
During the annual Bonsai club dinner it's usual to have a lottery with all round bonsai prizes.
Watching them exposed before the game I immediatly focused my attention on this hornbeam.
So I was really happy when my number was called and I won the plant.
Also, even a suiseki with a beautiful Dai came to my hands.
I post some picture of the plant wich needs a mandatory repot to change the awful soil, also reaching the roots it will be choose the better inclination for this bonsai.
